also i know the selfie stick symbolism was a little extra and silly at first but i really do think social media is going to play a big role in revealing whatever even’s shame was at bakka. think about it. so far we’ve had chris b post a selfie with mikael, we know the balloon squad posts on youtube, now isak’s seen mikael through facebook, and sana is bound to find the battle photo of even on yousef’s profile too. while all the other characters are aware that this information is being shared, even - the person who isn’t on social media and who has the biggest potential to get hurt from these posts - isn’t aware of them.

since i wrote this post we’ve gotten a mention of even through the hei briskeby youtube channel which we know the whole girl squad has seen, isak liked a photo on chris b’s instagram which means he’s seen her photo with mikael, and, maybe the most important development of all, we have isak asking sana about mikael over a private facebook conversation, including this comment: “you can’t run away from the internet gurl.”

(also, this might be reaching slightly, but in isak’s latest instagram post, even’s in the background and he’s partially obstructed from view..)

i think we should be paying a LOT of attention to that message going forward. these recent social media updates continue giving us blurred glimpses into even’s relationship to the balloon squad (especially mikael). not only that, but they’re starting to involve more and more people. virtually everyone has encountered these connections by now - except even, who is still, as far as we know, completely in the dark.

even tried to run away from the internet. it’s been a theory of mine for a while that whatever caused him to fall out with his bakka friends and transfer schools had a great deal to do with social media (ie him “writing a bunch of crazy stuff on the revue’s facebook wall”). even doesn’t use social media anymore, and i think that’s largely because he thinks staying (running) away from it keeps what happened in the past when, in reality, it only keeps him unaware of what information is being shared about that past.
